Its July so i have been attempting to learn to sew bathing suits. So i have made 2 bathing suits tops and one bottom. I will try to show you how. With this said i bought half a yard of bathing suit fabric for $2.65 at Joann Fabrics, and searched for a shirt that fit well my daughter.
After i found the shirt that would serve as my guide,
I folded the bottom so it'd be shorter.
Then i decided about inch and a half under the arm holes would be enough to be the area of covering her chest.
So i put the shirt on the bottom of the fabric ( fabric folded so i get two of these) Folded one of the arms down leaving the other up . This will give the over lap look.
I folded the main fabric, then cut a rectangle of the fabric the size of the shirt under the area we had decided that would be the chest area. Plus seem allowance.
At this point we should have the rectangles for the bottom portion of the top and the 2 triangles for the chest. I was going to use elastic but not necessary here.
Then I started sewing by the rectangles put wrong side with wrong side and sewed a 1/4 inch on the left and right side not top or bottom of the rectangles.
Then i cut the extra fabric on the sides (fabric towards the outside after the 1/4 inch stitch) and turned the rectangles right side with right side and sewed again 1/4 inch (in makes a prettier inside since i do not have a serger ;-)
I seemed (1/4 inch) around the triangles with my zigzag stitch (its allows lots of stretching)
As you can see when i attached the joined the triangles i joined them on the bottom and sewed along the top triangle
Then Zig zag attaching the chest area with the belly area .
Awesome!!! Love the overlapping trick!!!
